Using space that is not lit well does not work with tool storage organization. When trying to optimize your space, use the areas that are harder to get to for tools less used, but always make sure you can easily find those tools! Proper lighting helps greatly with organization and optimization but also changes the look of your tool storage area and adds some class.
The first light we worked with was the Lockdown 25 LED Lights with an auto on/off sensor that turns the lights on when you open the door and off after you close the doo. These come in a two-pack with each 25 LED light putting out 70 lumens output each. The Lockdown LED lights can attach via 2 strong magnets or screw attachment, each uses 3 ‘AAA’ batteries each (not included). The lights will run 6 hours continuous, standby time of 8,700hrs, have a sensor range 5 meters, and a sensor angle 120 degrees. Since these are square and the sensor is on one of the sides, you can position the light for the proper sensitivity for your application.
The Amazon Motion Sensor LED Under Cabinet Lighting has a built-in 1800mAh battery with fast charging. We are able to use these lights while they charge and also keep them plugged in if we wanted. The LED Under Cabinet Lights can be used continuously for 5 hours in “permanently on mode”, and used continuously for 2-3 months in the motion sensor mode. Each light has 120 LEDs with up to 500 lumens if used with the warm and cold lights on together. Most will not use them in that way so the numbers will be cut in half. The brightness is adjustable from 40-100% with White/Warm/Mixed(6500K/ 3000K/ 4500K) 3 light temperature options suitable for different applications. These Amazon lights have a more advanced motion sensor and can be set up for both day and/or night usage. The lights will automatically turn on when motion is detected within 6ft and 120° range, and auto-off when no motion detected for 20 seconds. The Amazon Motion Sensor LED Under Cabinet Lighting has a built-in magnet so that you can stick it directly to metal. They also come with an adhesive metal strip for other applications.
There are other options on the market. I looked at the models at Harbor Freight and they were not the right shape but were priced right. The reviews had those working on a 50/50 basis with the main problem being them not shutting off and draining the battery. The two lights listed above have been proven to work for me for the last 2 months. That is not long term by any means, so let me know what you think or have been using.
