The Green Monster | 1971 C3 Corvette Rebuild with Upgrades

After looking for a nice 1968 to 1972 Corvette in Michigan ( 3 years ) I finally ran across a green on green 1971 C3 Corvette with a 270 HP 350 4 speed car that was in pretty good shape. While Corvette bodies will not rust, the frames do and it is very important to get a good frame!  We say “Buy the best Corvette you can because you cannot afford to fix it”.  When it comes to paint and frame work, the costs are crazy.

Our Corvette needed small items, like shocks and a steering gear rebuild to be daily driven. The car is all numbers matching (not that it mattered much) but I would consider it more of a survivor than anything else. It has 78,000 miles on it and the more I started working on it, the more we wanted to do.  Rather than rebuild some of the old dated items, we are replacing them with parts that will update the car to handle and drive better.

One of the items we decided to ditch was the factory steering system.  To make the car drive better we are upgrading to the Borgeson Corvette Power Steering Kit – https://www.summitracing.com/int/par…9032/overview/
That should give the car a more sporty feel and fix the sloppy steering at the same time.

While the motor runs perfectly, it is slow.  Slower than most would think.  So, while going through the car, why not make more power and increase the reliability a bit.
