Milwaukee Vs GEARWRENCH Underhood Light

Comparing these two underhood lights is interesting because they both light up an engine bay, but they do it in different ways.  The GEARWRENCH is more versatile and will be used as a light more often because it detaches from the underhood rack.  The Milwaukee is a longer and larger light that might do a better overall job.

When looking at these two, it is hard for me not to take the years of experience that I have with the Milwaukee and jump out and say that it is better.  It is hard to say that one is better as it seems more people will get more bang for their buck from the removable wing light than from a more dedicated model.

What we can say is that the spring that holds the GEARWRENCH up and to the hood seems a bit light for my taste.  The rack relies on the hooks to stop it from falling rather than the rubber over-mold and pressure.  Just the opposite of the Milwaukee.

Also, the GEARWRENCH is a much whiter light than the Milwaukee that seems to have a very cool color temperature.  Milwaukee will say that their light will allow you to see the exact color of wires more accurately, but is that really true?  When looking at the wires with each of the lights, it does seem that the cooler lights help you see the purple with a pink line easier, but there is not that much difference.

Overall, if you are in the market, it is going to come down to use.  Will you use this light enough to justify one dedicated underhood light or do you want a light that has more uses?  That is the question you need to ask yourself and the answer will take you to the light you need.
