Milwaukee Tool strives to innovate the tool industry. This time Milwaukee Tool has created the first motorized torque wrench. The goal of this new innovative Digital Torque Wrench is to deliver more productivity, precise torque accuracy, and advanced reporting functionality. The Milwaukee Tool M12 FUEL 3/8” and 1/2” Digital Torque Wrenches w/ ONE-KEY are most fitting and designed around commercial electricians. In commercial electrical situations, they will deliver 50% faster installation times, replacing hand tools or the traditional two-tool installation processes and providing more accuracy to reduce the over-torquing of fasteners.
These tools combine a POWERSTATE Brushless Motor in a design similar to the M12 FUEL Ratchet and a digital torque wrench. Milwaukee also has impressive torque accuracy of up to ±2% CW, ±3% CCW of full scale for torque critical fasteners.
How The Digital Torque Wrench Works
Milwaukee Tool has integrated many adjustable variables into the settings of the new Digital Torque Wrench. While these settings will help you to interact with the tool exactly how you would like, the tool will operate in simple terms as stated below:
- Step 1: Set the torque target by application
- Step 2: Pull the trigger to max RPM
- The tool will automatically stop prior to target torque to prevent over-torquing
- Step 3: Finish by hand to reach target torque
- The tool will notify the user is the proper torque was applied through sound, vibration, LED lights, and an on-screen notification.
- Step 4 (Optional): Press “Save” to record the final torque event
Note that the user is able to set values for the tool to stop tightening the fastener prior to hitting the set torque value. The user can set over-torque warnings based on percentages or actual values. Quick modes can be set for different jobs that allow all of these settings to be chosen quickly so the user spends more time working than setting up the tool for the process.
The Milwaukee Tool M12 FUEL 3/8” and 1/2” Digital Torque Wrenches have a lot of adjustments and settings that might seem overwhelming when you first turn on the tool. Any user will very quickly be able to set the tool up for any job in seconds after moving around the settings once. This is not your Grandfather’s digital torque wrench! It is capable of much more.
Mechanics Torque Wrench
Milwaukee Tool was not shy in stating that this new M12 FUEL Digital Torque Wrench was made for Electricians and would not be something most Mechanics would use. we can see that is true in a few ways. We firmly believe Milwaukee Tool shys away from Mechanics with this Torque Wrench because it will most likely not save Mechanics any time like it will the other trades as they would need two tools or use hand tools to complete the job this one tool will complete. Most Mechanics use a click-style torque wrench for speed, but in some cases, like engine building, digital torque wrenches are used.
If you are an engine builder or assemble parts with specific and important torque values, this new digital torque wrench will be perfect for you. The only hurdle that you will find is the limitation of the max torque of 150 ft-lbs. Most engine builders will find 90% of the items they work with will be under those values.
Lessen Repetitive Motions
If you are part of the group of people that this tool appeals to, it can have a huge benefit in lessening the number of repetitive motions one might do on a standard day. Repetitive motion injuries, like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, can occur from overuse of a specific motion. Injuries such as these often result in pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, and a loss of dexterity and are very prevalent among mechanics who have worked for many years. This Digital Torque Wrench can help to reduce fatigue and injury and facilitate healing if someone has already been injured.
