The New DEWALT FlexVolt 60V Brushless 7-1/4″ Circular Saw DCS578 has up to 47% more power than its predecessor the DCS575 in use with a 6.0Ah DCB606 battery.  The new saw achieves over 2456 UWO and has a no-load speed of 5,800 RPM.  Many of the other specifications match the predecessor such as a max depth of cut at 90 degrees of 2-9/16″, a max depth of cut at 45 degrees of 2″, and a maximum bevel angle of 57 degrees with detents at 22.5 and 45 degrees. As far as blade right circular saws go, this is one of the top performers.

DEWALT upgraded three tools that were part of the original DEWALT FlexVolt System that debuted in 2016.  The upgraded tools are FlexVolt 7-1/4 IN. Circular Saw DCS578, FlexVolt 4-1/2 – 6 IN. Grinder DCG418, and FlexVolt Reciprocating Saw DCS389.   

The upgrades to these three tools mean that the Circular Saw DCS578 is up to 47% more powerful, the Grinder DCG418 is up to 30% more powerful, and the Reciprocating Saw DCS389 is up to 19% more powerful than their predecessors.  This was achieved with new software, motor, and hardware upgrades.

UPGRADE DISCLAIMER

First, it is important to know that the FlexVolt battery is not exactly 60-volts.  Maximum initial battery voltage (measured without a workload) is 60 volts. The nominal voltage is 54.  This type of measurement applies to many different brands, not just DEWALT.

Next, the DEWALT DCS578 FlexVolt 7-1/4 IN. Circular Saw with a DCB609 9.0 Ah 60V FlexVolt battery has up to 47% more power vs. DEWALT DCS575 in use with a 6.0Ah DCB606 battery.  Some of the increase in power is because the DCB609 9.0 Ah battery has 21700 cells where the DCB606 6.0 Ah battery has 18650 cells.  The 21700 cells can produce and hold more amps than the 18650 cells.

DEWALT Vs Milwaukee Saws

Every tool manufacturer has tools they excel at building better than other brands.  DEWALT is setting the bar when it comes to circular saws without a doubt.  This might have a lot to do with the FlexVolt battery because even the Power Detect 20-volt circular saw is nothing compared to the new FlexVolt Circular Saw.  Milwaukee has a great M18 FUEL circular saw if you are cross-cutting 2x lumber or ripping thin sheet goods.  When you start making full depth cuts, the lower voltage circular saws tested in this video just a not happy.

I feel I made an error using the Milwaukee 8.0 Ah High Output battery with the tool trying to match the tool up with the DEWALT Power Detect Circular Saw.  I came to my senses finally and used the 12 Ah battery to try to stop the cutouts.  Even with the larger battery, there was still no chance the Milwaukee M18 FUEL saw was going to keep up with the DEWALT FlexVolt Circular Saw!
