What To Look for When Buying A Used Can-Am Maverick X3 Side By Side

Buying a used vehicle, ATV or UTX can be difficult.  In this video, we walk you through what to look for when looking at used Can-Am Maverick X3 models.  We cannot stress enough that you should not let excitement make any decisions and try not to purchase the first machine you look at!  Visit places like Powersports Place.com to familiarize yourself with accessories, parts and maintenance items.  Knowing what these items cost can help you negotiate a good deal!

When you first contact the owner, ask a lot of questions about the machines condition and the way he used it.  Find out how many owners it has had and why they are selling it.  Listen close and even take notes if you are looking at multiple machines.  In some ways, you want to be a detective and see if you get the same story all the way through the viewing of the machine.  The Can-Am Maverick X3 is a powerful machine and many take that for granted and roll them or hit things causing damage that can be costly to fix.  Look for anything that could give you hints the machine was damaged and the first hint might be the stories the owner tells you.

When you look at the machine, be very observant.  Try to take a friend with you to help you look for items that are bent or look new next to something old.  Ask for the machine to be clean.  A clean machine will show damage if there is any to be found.  Never look at a machine in the dark!  Use a tape measure or laser distance measure to check for bent items or frame tweaks.  If you found a nice ride with a ton of new parts, ask to see the old parts they replaced.  If the old parts are available, check the condition.  If they are not available, it might be because they were damaged.

Make sure to check the oil looking for nice clean oil free of water.  If you are looking at one of the models made for mudding, check all the fluids and the air intake for any signs of mud or water intrusion.  Parts for these machines are not cheap and one surprise can cost an extreme amount of money.  Make sure the deal you make takes into consideration that something could go wrong and if it does, you will still feel comfortable with your investment in your toy.

If you are not comfortable looking the machine over mechanically, you can always take the machine to a dealership and have the service department give it a look.  Even if you do not plan on taking it to a dealer, you can always ask if the owner would allow it.  If they hesitate or would not let you, that could be a sign of trouble.

Buying a used machine can be a lot of fun.  Take your time and look for a nice machine at a good deal.  Don’t settle for something that is beat up unless you plan to take it on as a project.  Have fun and enjoy the people you get to meet!
